For this month's column, I thought it would be useful to give you an idea of how a non-directional beacon works. The majority of NDBs you can receive are aeronautical navigation aids and fall into two basic groups. First, those used for en route navigation. Second, those used at an airfield, often as a locator beacon for its instrument landing system.
