John Peel was the most influential figure in British music radio broadcasting for over 35 years. When John died in 2004, a couple of rather hastily compiled biographies were published. Michael Heatley's John Peel: A Life in Music (2004) and Mick Wall's John Peel (2004). In 2005, the long-awaited autobiography, Margrave of the Marshes was published. John had only written part of the book before his untimely death. However, it was lovingly completed by his wife, Sheila Ravenscroft. In 2007, Ken Garner's remarkable work of scholarship, The Peel Sessions, was published which contain complete details of all live music sessions recorded for John during his career at the BBC. Therefore, any new work about this iconic figure is to be welcomed.
