Last month, I mentioned very briefly my recent Mediterranean cruise and promised more detail this month, so here goes. In a week that should have taken in five different ports, weather and other circumstances left us facing two full extra days at sea in gales and visiting only three ports. Interestingly, I spent one morning basking in the warm sun on the after-deck while approaching Messina in Sicily and the afternoon standing in horizontal snow 6000 feet up Mount Etna! On this cruise, it was pleasing to see somebody else operating a scanner on board the ship and, obviously, I introduced myself to its owner, who had only just begun scanning at a senior age. Apart from his Yupiteru scanner, he was also equipped with frequency counter and told me had spent the morning running after several crew members seen with hand-held transceivers in their back pockets in an attempt to determine their frequency.
