OVER the past two months, I have received many emails from readers asking if the rail industry is going to offer any form of compensation to railcard holders for the almost four-month period when we were told not to use trains except for essential travel. I replied to everyone saying that I knew the Rail Delivery Group wanted a scheme, but that at the time the Department for Transport was still considering it and I would tell readers in this column once I had details. Sorry to have raised people's hopes, but the DfT has still decided nothing, despite so much time having passed. In RAIL 913's The Fare Dealer, I lambasted the DfT as a "monolithic, unresponsive and bureaucratic" organisation that is doing immense damage to the industry by its lethargic response to everything.
