Now there is an interesting topic, either for a solitary thought experiment, or - to make things more complicated - for a discussion with a few others: Books that Changed History. This book may not change history, but being published by DK (now part of Penguin Random House) it is as usual beautifully produced (in China) and sold at a reasonable price. I mention these aspects of production and publication, as the authors begin with an introduction looking at the history of the book, with sections on scrolls and codices, the printed book, books for all from the eighteenth century onwards, and the modern book (e.g. Penguin paperbacks).
