Soldiers of the British Fourteenth Army in Burma often thought of themselves as "The forgotten army", and in terms of the publicity it received compared to other theatres of the Second World War, their complaint might have been justified. This book, written by the founder of the Victoria Cross Society, aims to remind modern readers of the numerous deeds of heroism performed there, in what was, as the author points out, actually the longest campaign the British Army fought during that war, and which accounts for two-thirds of the V.C. awards described. He notes, significantly, that out of the 15 divisions engaged at some time in Burma, only two were British in composition, whereas eight were Indian and three African. The work also encompasses the campaigns in Malaya, New Guinea and one or two other Pacific islands.
