From the "routes" of the Manchester Pan-African Congress in 1945 and India's independence and partition in 1947 to the representation of all aspects of identity in the prose, poetry and performance art of African, Caribbean and South Asian writers today, this Cambridge Companion explores the "influence of contemporary Black British and Asian writing in British culture". In all, 16 contributors, from the UK, USA and Europe, discuss a wide range of themes including the history of Britain's migrant population, women's fiction, Black British theatre, gender and sexual identity, poetry and transracial adoption.
