The Kentucky African American Encyclopedia documents the history of African Americans in the state of Kentucky, from notable individuals and their contributions to the world, to topical essays on subjects such as education and business. The content has been carefully chosen -places and events were picked according to their significance in shaping history; individuals included are those born in Kentucky or who spent their formative years there and who made significant contributions to politics, art, science, etc. The entries in the encyclopedia are in alphabetical order, with the entry headings in bold. Dates are included with each, along with relevant locations. Following the headings are several paragraphs discussing the individual or topic. Some topics, such as education, receive an entire page in the encyclopedia while others, such as African American jockeys, have just a few paragraphs. One thing that I particularly liked is when entries included relevant pictures, which helped present the information in a different way. Following the entry, all citations are listed, along with the name of the person who wrote the entry.
