This dictionary has been produced by trawling through a very wide range of international and national texts, legislation and treaties for technical terms. The compilers have also taken industry-specific terms. The first area of selection provides a definition for all technical terms used in the documents. The second area provides explanations of terms that might be seen as jargon. There are about 4,500 terms in the dictionary, and some terms have sub-terms. Given the thoroughness of the term selection many quite common and widely known terms such as Fahrenheit are included. Actually, this is a useful term because most people and countries use Celsius, and the definition includes a conversion method which is useful if you have a document from pre SI days. Celsius is not defined because everyone should know that; neither is Kelvin, I assume because only scientists use that term. Cadmium is included, but the explanation is all about its toxicity rather than how many electrons it has. Some common words have specific meanings. Coupons are specimens of material tested to see how they degrade. Zones and agglomerations are the way the UK is divided up for monitoring air pollution subject to directive 96/62 EU; so the term includes me -I never knew that.
