Print travel guides and similar publications do not feature regularly in these columns, mainly because there are so many of them and also because websites are now the chief sources of travel and tourist information. Having said this, there is no doubt that the printed travel or sightseeing guides remain one of the most popular types of material in public libraries, and so, it is useful for librarians in all settings to have an awareness of what is available, especially when a new family of guides appears. 111 Places in London That You Shouldn't Miss appears to be part of one such series of new guides. Published by the German company Emons, it sits alongside "111" titles in English for a number of other cities, including Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Stockholm and Paris. There is also a wider range of guides available in German, especially for cities in German-speaking countries and a series of shopping guides, including 111 Shops in London You Shouldn't Miss (ISBN 978 3 95451 341 3) which must be regarded as a companion publication to the title reviewed here. Quite why the number 111 should be used to denote this series, the reviewer was unable to determine, but at least it is a change from the 101 normally favoured by books of this type. And, of course, as the choice of 111 should make clear, this series does not seek to be a comprehensive guide to the cities covered. Rather, it offers a selection of sights, focussing on the more unusual and out-of-the-way, frequently neglected or given scant mention in general travel guides.
