Asian Americans: An Encyclopedia of Social, Cultural, Economic, and Political History is a three-volume encyclopedia, reviewed here in its electronic version, dedicated to the lives and history of Asian Americans. More than 200 scholars from various fields and disciplines contributed to the approximately 600 entries in the set. The encyclopedia begins with a chronology of events related to Asian Americans. This chronology is interesting because it begins not with first contact with America, but with worldwide cultural developments. Colonialism is highlighted along with various diaspora movements, and interactions between Asian and European/American entities occurring in both Asia and America are briefly described.
