摘要

The first edition of Ducks, Geese, and Swans of North America was published in 1942 by Francis H. Kortright and had 14 printings and was considered by many to be the "bible" for waterfowl enthusiasts. The next edition was revised by Frank Bellrose in 1976 and he also produced the third edition in 1980: both highly popular works. Frank Bellrose died in 2005, and in 2009, Guy Baldassarre took up the mantel to produce the next edition. He submitted the manuscript in 2012 but died soon after of leukaemia, aged 59, before the book was published. This revised and updated full colour edition has been written in two volumes (in a slipcase with over 1,000 pages) and is a must-have for professional biologists, birders, waterfowl hunters, decoy collectors and wildlife managers, remembering of course it is solely focused on North America. Guy Baldassarre supplemented the original artwork of Bob Hines with photographs by top waterfowl photographers so that the book is very attractive and includes new and highly informative range maps for all species, often including separate maps for winter and breeding ranges which are useful.
