Question: how many librarians does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: 729.28, according to Dewey. Apologies - that was unnecessary. But this is a small attempt to get us in the right frame of mind for this book, A Companion to Film Comedy from Wiley-Blackwell. A minor caveat though; this book was hard for me to review; Comedy and film are two of my great loves. However, you should know that I have approached this with the appropriate level of professional distance that you expect from a Reference Review reviewer. But please excuse the occasional fan boy digression.Film comedy is a huge subject, and the editors Andrew Horton and Joanna Rapf have a mammoth task on their hands. They certainly seem to have the background and pedigree to manage this - almost thirty books between them on film, screenwriting and cultural studies. In order to manage the contributions, they have taken the sensible decision to section them into seven distinct parts.
