摘要

Most British librarians working in a non-specialist environment will be familiar with the Aslib Directory of Information Sources in the United Kingdom. It has a long pedigree, originally appearing in 1928 as one of the first publications of the newly formed Association of Special Libraries and Information Bureaux, and hence the otherwise somewhat mystifying ASLIB acronym. A second edition appeared in 1957, with further editions released intermittently in the following decades. More recently, publication has been taken on by the Taylor & Francis group, initially under the Europa label but currently with the Routledge imprint. The directory now appears on a roughly biennial basis and has been regularly reviewed in these column, including the 15th edition of 2008 (RR 2010/002) and the 16th edition of 2010 (RR 2011/351). An 18th edition, provisionally scheduled for launch at the end of 2014, was announced at the time of writing this review. To avoid any misunderstanding, it is important to point out the ASLIB label is now purely a historical anomaly, presumably retained for branding purposes. ASLIB, now the Association for Information and operating primarily as a membership and training organization under the ownership of Emerald Group Publishing, no longer has any connection with the directory.
