摘要

Old Maps Online lets the user search for digital historical maps by combining the collections of various libraries and institutions across the world. Old Maps Online does not own these maps, but merely lets the user view the original material digitally. Old Maps Online was founded by JISC under Strand C: Clustering Digital Content in 2011 and is a successor of the Moravian Library in the Czech Republic. On January 31, 2013, the site lost funding, so although it is still accessible, updates now happen infrequently. Access to this website is free, with no downloading or registration needed. Each map shown is copyright to the institution that owns it, meaning users cannot buy from this website or distribute the images from it. Each map's host institution is listed in the metadata, so it is an easy task to find out more information about each one.
