Libraries which already have the original (2007) two-volume encyclopedia will be interested to learn that a third volume (called the supplement) has now appeared. This original was reviewed by Graham Cornish in these columns (RR 2008/253), to which readers are referred. For convenience, to summarise what Cornish said, it was a reference work understandably reflecting Catholic teaching and law and interpretation as they shape(d) social issues, and it was very much a work for libraries specializing in Catholic thinking and studies. Cornish concluded that it was probably not a work for the generalist, and highlighted how the terminology and search-terms for some entries could present challenges for readers less familiar with Catholic jargon. At the time of writing this current review (November 2012), the original work is priced on the publisher's website at £ 110 or $174.
