Like its counterparts in the Ashgate series, The Ashgate Research Companion to International Trade Policy sets out to provide a comprehensive overview of current thinking about its subject. This it does in 28 detailed chapters by 36 contributors from all parts of the world, each dealing with a specific aspect (e.g. tariffs), sector of trade (e.g. agriculture), part of the world (e.g. the European Union), or related subject (e.g. trade and development), besides introductory chapters on the history of trading systems in modern times, and a final one giving conclusions by the editors. In such books, the reader often encounters a statement to the effect that each contributor expresses a different point of view and that some may actually contradict others.
