摘要

MarineBio is an advocacy organization for the oceans based in Houston, Texas. Donations made to MarineBio are tax-deductible in the US as it is a designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit. David Campbell, owner, two other staff members, and volunteers create and maintain the website. The site is the chief vehicle for fulfilling the organization's "global mission [...] to share the wonders of the ocean to inspire conservation, education, research and a sea ethic". In addition to the website, Mr Campbell runs the MarineBio Conservation Society; its membership fees help support the website. Social media tools available to site visitors include Plankton Forums to discuss MarineBio's topics; a MarineBio Blog; a MarineBio YouTube Channel; and a MarineBio Flickr Stream. Visitors can also purchase books and other items from the online shop and explore video and photographs from trips to marine sites around the world. Mr Campbell is passionate about protecting the oceans from the many threats facing them, and attempts to address as many ocean-related topics as possible. His primary audience seems to be young people who have not yet settled on a career (he does his best to inform them about the possibilities for marine biology education around the world) and ecotourists interested in diving and underwater photography.
