In 2002, the reviewer attended a colloquium, The Socio-Economic Legacy of Slavery at the University of California, Santa Barbara, throughout the day many scholars referenced The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade: A Database on CD-ROM This database was first published in 1999, by Cambridge University Press (Eltis et al., 1999). Since that time the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, has evolved into an open access resource. David Eltis, one of the original contributors of the CD-ROM product, successfully secured a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant for its digital conversion.
