This year marks the 40th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr's assassination. America mourns the loss of a great activist while others are still grappling with his legacy. Many publications and documentaries have been produced tracing King's iconic moments. The Martin Luther King Jr Encyclopedia is the first encyclopedia dedicated to King's life presenting descriptions of people, places and events that assist readers in formulating the events of his life from birth until his untimely death. This project was guided by historian Clayborne Carson, the Director and Senior Editor, of the Martin Luther King, Jr, Papers Project at Stanford University. Carson is the author of In Struggle: SNCC and the Black Awakening of the 1960's (Carson, 1981) which is still considered the definitive history of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Malcolm X: The FBI File (Carson and Gallen, 1991) and co-author of African American Lives: The Struggle for Freedom (Carson et al. 2005) among other projects and titles.
