The figure of 250 is a pretty significant milestone in any book series, and must be especially so in the case of this now monumental series. For those libraries that have the whole set it must be an impressive, not to say daunting, sight on their shelves. Even more than that, it comprises an impressive reference source on more than 130,000 authors (according to the web site: the volume says 120,000, but in that kind of range who is going to count?). For once the impressiveness of the numbers really is significant, both of the volumes and of the subjects. For in the entire series there can be very few authors across the world not to have been featured.
