One of the indexes to this directory is of countries with no library or information science schools. In my more pessimistic moments I might have wondered how close the UK comes to qualifying for that index. In fact we still sport a good number of LIS schools, although it is noticeable how many have been subsumed into business schools or merged into schools of computing: only a handful remain of well-established schools headed by names well recognised in the library profession. Survival of independent library or LIS schools seems better across the world, with the USA in particular still boasting many schools of specifically library science. Now in its third edition, this comprehensive directory from such an authoritative source must be the essential handbook for anyone needing information on LIS (not forgetting archive) education across the world. In the first place it seems to be absolutely comprehensive: I cannot think of any school I might expect to find which is not listed here, and one of the pleasures of this directory is to browse and see just how many such schools there are across the world.
