The questions that immediately spring to mind when one looks at this book are "What is it about?" and "Who is it for?" The book's title is rather perplexing and disorientating and does not really help to answer these questions. The term, "Wars of Religion", made me think of the French Wars of the Religion of the sixteenth century. Then I saw the dates in the title: 1000-1650.I had never heard of this period referred to as "the Age of the Wars of Religion" before. Then there is the phrase "global warfare" which has a very contemporary ring to it that does not sit well with one's expectations of the content of the book. So, what is this book about? The answer turns out to be much simpler than expected.
