摘要

We appreciate these comments on our paper on innovation-related policies to combat global climate change. The debate has enriched our understanding of the challenges posed by climate change. Nevertheless, these commentaries reinforce our view that the Manhattan Project (or Apollo Program) analogy is an inappropriate and potentially damaging one for policies to support the creation and adoption of technologies that can lessen the threat of global climate change. Instead, we believe that R&D programs in other areas like agriculture, the biomedical sciences, and information technology provide more relevant guidance for program design in this area.
