Stuttgart, Germany-based Coperion recently announced updates to its PET plastic recycling equipment. The company identified one step it has been able to eliminate with the latest model. “Before PET can be reprocessed, it must first be shredded to flakes and then cleaned,” the company explained. “Ordinary technologies require pre-drying, crystallization or agglomeration of the PET flakes following washing.” But with the company’s ZSK twin extruder, shredded PET can be fed directly into the extruder. “PET flakes can now be processed without pre-drying into pellets using Coperion ZSK twin screw extruders,” the company stated. “Next they are condensed in the [solid state polycondensation] reactor, and reprocessed back into bottles again with the quality of virgin material.”
