After several straight months of rising prices for ferrous scrap, the market saw a leveling off- even with more robust exports from both coasts. The boost in exports was partly in response to dropping trans-Pacific container rates, and the rise was not accompanied by an increase in scrap pricing levels. Some analysts say this points to a generally weak market for the material. Some hope remains, with several steelmakers talking about improved profits in the second quarter, which should help scrap prices eventually.
