On Oct. 5. the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) announced the adoption of the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council Zero Waste standards, a commitment from the highly rigorous environmental performance pacesetter to address waste more comprehensively in LEED certification systems.It's an important move: Waste has long been grossly underestimated in big business sustainability efforts.According to a recent Yale University study, 294 million tons of solid waste were sent to landfill and other forms of disposal in 2013.
