California Gov. Jerry Brown has recommended a series of cost-saving changes to strengthen the state's cash-strapped yet successful beverage container recycling program. Referring to the proposed changes as vital "to ensure the fiscal integrity of the program," a summary of the new budget enumerates several key cuts to California's beverage container program to take effect during the 2014-2015 fiscal year (FY). And according to Mark Oldfield of CalRecycle, the agency responsible for the rollout and management of the program, the adjustments should bring the program "pretty close" to eliminating its $100 million structural deficit.
