Attention, MRF operators: Your plastics customers are not happy. Low yields have reclaimers scrambling to maximize the value of the unwanted materials that end up in their PET and HDPE bales. At the same time, reclaimers are trying to set up multi-tiered pricing based on bale quality, and pushing back on the quality of bales they get from MRFs now that China is rejecting more mixed bales because of that country's Operation Green Fence. Bale yield figures demonstrate the percentage of a bale made up of resin-specific material. In recent years, the percentage of usable material in bales purchased by plastics reclaimers has been dropping, often to shocking levels.
