In deposit jurisdictions, beverage containers are sometimes scavenged from public space bins creating a challenge for program operators. Individuals remove deposit-bearing containers in order to collect the refund. Analysis of pilot program data has-confirmed that the presence of a deposit/ refund system for beverage containers can suppress the quantity of beverage containers that remain disposed of in public spaces.
