Considering that PET bottles and thermoforms are made from the same kind of polymer, a typical consumer might be shocked to learn that currently, only one of these types of packaging can be recycled with relative ease. One product type (bottles) has a proven collection and reclamation infrastructure that uses efficient cleaning and size-reduction methods for recovering material. The other type, frankly, lacks most of these qualities when it comes to recycling, though this situation is slowly changing.
