Each January for a good number of years, I've published an editorial exposing all the available data on the performance of my magazine and those of my competitors. I do this for two reasons. First, in this magazine, and especially in its weekly digital newsletter, my staff reports on all the successes and failures in recycling. As I've said before, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.Second, I contend that measuring progress among trade publishers is yet another indicator of how the broader recycling, composting and waste management industries are doing. Our results often mirror those of the firms and agencies we focus on. Our performance is another useful metric for my readers.
