I was recently in New Hampshire, visiting family, and my sister was showing off a new cup from a local "green" burrito joint. "You'll like this," she said. "It's made from corn and recyclable." I looked at the cup. "It's made from corn and composta-ble," I said. Knowing that she lived in a rural community with no industrial composting facility, I told her that it likely wasn't even that. "Just because something is labeled 'biodegradable' or 'com-postable' doesn't mean it is," I said.
