According to a study funded by the Environment and Plastics Industry and Council (EPIC), reusable shopping bags "could pose a significant risk to the safety of the food supply," due to the presence of bacteria, mold and yeast on tested bags.rnThe EPIC-funded study, carried out by two independent laboratories with a third, Toronto-based Sporometrics, writing the final report and providing commentary, tested 25 used reusable shopping bags with four bags as control samples. Some single-use plastic bags were sampled as well.
