Organizers in charge of the recent Democratic National Convention in Denver announced that all food scraps, biodegradable cups and sandwich boxes generated from the quadrennial event are being converted into usable compost. The effort is part of the DNC Committee's plan to make sure that convention debris did not exceed 15 percent of Denver's waste stream sent to landfill. According to committee officials, A1 Organics (Eaton, Colorado) is handling com-postable materials produced from DNC parties and meetings held at the Pepsi Center and other venues, fully converting the organic scraps and cornstarch-based food serviceware into useful end-product. Material generated at the DNC is not expected to be fully composted until December.
