摘要

Over 940 attendees from over a dozen countries converged on Glendale, Arizona for the 6th annual E-Scrap Conference in mid-September. The main draw was a session lineup focusing on a variety of cutting edge issues in electronics recycling, and panels of experts engaged in focused, nuanced and lively discussion. Several major announcements, however, punctuated the discourse, prompting swift responses from some attending organizations, and driving the debate over the following days. Prior to the start of the conference, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (Washington) and the International Association of Electronics Recyclers (Albany, New York) announced a highly anticipated merger of the two organizations. While New York officials have yet to approve the move, both parties are going forward with plans to fully integrate IAER's members into its Electronics Recycling Division. Other organizational details of the merger remained a mystery, but representatives from the leading organizations were highly optimistic about the new merger's potential.
