My father always told me, analyzing a problem would reveal an opportunity. He encouraged me to look at problems with opportunities in mind. Based on that premise, the electronics recycling industry faces a serious problem. Without an industry certification program to establish standards for electronics recyclers, the industry will remain fragmented and never reach its fullest potential. Standards are a tool to measure and improve the quality of companies in an industry and are essential for any industry to succeed. Standards help stakeholders understand the industry's capabilities and deficiencies, and allow industry members to see where they stand and where they need to go in order to improve the industry. In other words, standards put everyone on the same page; they level the playing field and make all stakeholders fully aware of the status and direction of the industry.
