Plastics continue to make headway as the material of choice for many new and innovative applications across North America. At the same time, there are new methods and technologies for dealing with plastic products that have reached the end of their intended lives. Within North America alone, some 2.5 billion pounds of post-consumer resin were reprocessed in 1998. Two plastics in particular made up approximately 50 percent of the post-consumer resin reprocessed — PET and HDPE. Linear low-density (LLDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) represent other types of post-consumer plastic being reprocessed in significant amounts.
