In homogeneous charge diesel combustion (HCDC), SOI of DI fuel is an important factor no mater how Small the amount of ID fuel. Retarding SOI allows the Premixtue combustion to progress further, consuming More oxygen, before the start of DI fuel combustion. Therefore, slightly retarding SOI is very effective to re- Duce NO_x because O_2 concentration just before ID fuel Combustion is drastically reduced.
