The horizontal component of main baring force is as much as the vertical component because of vibration of the crankshaft and cylinder block, and non-linear dynamic characteristic of oil film in the main bearing. At the moment of combustion, the bearing moment Is generated and inclines the bearing cap. The motion of The bearing cap is related to skirt vibration, which radi- Ates air borne noise. We developed a new calculational method that simulates coupled vibration between crankshaft and cy- linder block via oil film in the main bearing. It can predict main bearing force and cylinder block vibration from design parameters.
