摘要

The Mach interferometer has been used to study a supersonic air jet, and the method of adjustment, measurement, and evaluation of interferograms, calculation of densities, and typical results are given. A satisfactory light source embodying speed, monochromacy, and brilliance has been found. The resolution, accuracy, and sensitivity are discussed, and photographs illustrating many features of the instrument are presented. The method of analysis is not limited to air jets but is generally applicable to all axially symmetric air streams.
