摘要

The theory of the ring method for measuring shear moduli of wire specimens is developed. The resonant frequency fs for oscillations at right angles to the plane of the loop is related to the shear modulus n and Young''s modulus E by the equation Bν(ν+7)=2{(2π2/3)(ν2+2ν+9)+5ν2+46ν+17}, in which ν = 2n/E and B=E(a/r)4/2π(1-h)mfs2·a is the radius of the wire, r is the radius of the loop, m is the mass per unit length of the specimen, and h is a small gap correction term. Measurements of shear moduli on the same wire samples of Cu and Mo by the torsion pendulum and ring methods check within the experimental errors.
