Ionic afterpulses in photomultipliers have been studied. Besides the afterpulse abundance, the experimental times of flight for several ions have been determined and compared with theoretical calculations. Furthermore, a method to evaluate the single‐electron response from afterpulse pulse‐height analysis has been derived.
