The reproducibility of a vacuum spark discharge has been improved by plasma injection triggering, in which the discharge is initiated by the injection of plasmas formed from a triggering electrode. With this triggering method, the first Z pinch of the discharge occurs reproducibly with a jitter of only 50 ns.
