The design of a scanning and integrating microspectrophotometer for studying the absorption of tissue cells in the wavelength region 2200 to 7000 Å is described. The instrument can be used in three modes: as a double beam system in which the two beams are derived in the image plane of the microscope using a two‐hole aperture plate, as a scanning integrator, and as an uv photomicroscope.
