The Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW(RTA)in partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation(CSIRO)has Developed vehicle mounted technology (RoadCrack~TM)to automate the detection and classification of cracking in road pavements. It will improve the quality and reliability of data and reduce collection costs. RoadCrack~TM detects cracks(> 1 mm width)and classifies them as transverse, longitudinal or crocodile(ie. fatigue)while operating at highway speeds(> 800 km/hr), irrespective of the surface type(sprayed seal, asphalt or concrete).
