$500 MILLION SAFETY AND MOBILITY MEGAPROJECT: This project is being delivered in seven design and construction phases that will continue through 2030. When complete, new CD lanes, additional interstate lanes, new interstate on- and off-ramps, upgrades to 11 bridges, new walls, and upgraded drainage systems will deliver safer and improved mobility for local commuters and commercial freight. 7 PHASES: Phase 1 (focus on I-16 eastbound at downtown Macon) is scheduled for completion in fall 2021. Completed items include a new on-ramp from Spring Street to I-16 westbound, one bridge, and four MSE walls. Phase 1B—the community mitigation phase that includes two new parks, cultural/historical resource preservation, green space, and streetscaping—is fully complete. Phases 2/3 (focus on I-16/I-75 interchange), designed and let to contract together, are scheduled for a fall 2021 completion date. Phases 4/5 (I-16 east- and westbound from I-75) and Phase 6 (I-75 north- and southbound from I-16) are currently in design/ environmental stages, with 4 and 5 tentatively scheduled to be let in 2021, and phase 6 in 2023.
