A recent technical assessment reaffirms a study indicating that a growing number of imported glass beads for highway markings exhibit high concentrations of heavy metals like arsenic and lead. "The results of the study clearly document elevated levels of heavy metals within a sub-population of glass beads," the assessment states. "The results also definitively demonstrate that potentially hazardous levels of heavy metals can be extracted from these glass beads into the surrounding environment under relevant simulated conditions."
