Unemployment was the most pressing issue in the recent elections, and unemployment multiplied by a factor of two is the most pressing issue in the road-and-bridge construction business, second only maybe to the lack of a long-term federal highway bill. The construction industry's unemployment rate rose to 17.3% in October, almost double the national overall unemployment rate, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).
