Chicago Pneumatic's new rivet busters (Circle 907) are designed with a controlled power system (CPS) that prevents blank firing when a unit's bumpers have worn out, thus extending equipment life, enhancing long-term performance and avoiding unexpected downtime. The new CPS feature automatically prevents damaging blank fires when the rubber bumper is 75 % worn. At that point, the outward movement of the rivet buster's upper and lower sleeves opens bleeding ports for air, causing the piston to stop in its lower position as air is exhausted above the tool retainer. On previous models, with worn bumpers, the piston's excess energy would be transmitted into the front end of the cylinder during blank fires, eventually leading to equipment breakage. CPS is designed to protect against this premature wear and subsequently reduce replacement costs for worn or broken upper and lower sleeves.
